Douglas County’s Historic Cherokee Ranch
Located in Sedalia, CO near Daniels Park and the Ridge at Castle Pines North, Cherokee Ranch’s sprawling 3,400 acres of open space are a unique historical site that showcase generations of Colorado history as well as its distinct natural landscape and wildlife. Among the highlights of Cherokee Ranch are:
- 13th century Native American caves,
- A mountain trail used by trappers and traders in the 1840s,
- Homesteads from the 1860s,
- A 1950s-era cattle ranch, and of course
- The stunning Cherokee Castle.
Formally known as Charlford Castle, Cherokee Ranch and Castle was constructed in the 1920s and was designed by Burnham Hoyt in the style of a 15th century Scottish castle. With stone mined from nearby quarries, turrets, towers, gargoyles, and a gabled roof along with an outstanding art collection and elegant furnishings, Cherokee Ranch and Castle is the perfect setting for both private and public Cherokee Ranch events. Established as an educational and cultural site in the 1990s, the Cherokee Ranch is an astounding piece of history within easy access of Douglas County real estate. The ranch hosts fascinating events year round, such as:
- Guided Cherokee Castle tours and talks,
- Afternoon and holiday teas,
- Brunches, lunches, and dinners,
- Lectures on topics like conservation and history,
- Whiskey tastings,
- The wine and spirit food pairing series, and
- Other special events like comedy nights, geologic tours, hikes, and more,
The acres of open space are home not only to historic buildings and artifacts of life as it used to be, but also to wildlife such as bluebirds, elk, wild turkeys, bears, cougars, mountain lions, and porcupine.
